A teenager has been sentenced to 13 months in a young offenders’ institute after pleading guilty to handling stolen goods from a burglary in Sheppey.

Jordan Stone, 19, of Elm Road in Gillingham, was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court to nine months for handling stolen goods from the burglary in Queenborough and a further four months was activated following a suspended sentence issued on March 29 last year.

Stone was convicted in November at Central Kent Magistrates’ Court in Maidstone, after pleading guilty to the offence from the burglary in Mount Field, Queenborough, on July 24.

He was arrested on September 13 after selling a gold pendant, a Nintendo Wii games console and an Xbox at CashFlow in High Street, Sheerness.

Investigating officer, DC Neil Ireland, of Kent Police, said: "Kent Police takes a firm stance against those that commit burglaries and handle stolen goods from burglaries, and we will continue to be proactive in our investigations into this type of crime.

"We understand how intrusive burglary is and in this case the theft of the victim’s pendant was of significant value to her as it contained a picture of her father.

"Hopefully this sentence will act as a warning to burglars and those handling stolen goods, that we will find you, we will investigate and will come down on you with the full force of the law to ensure justice is done.’
