GILLINGHAM will be hoping to complete the best season in their history in style after picking up another four points over the Easter period.
Gills now have 61 points - six more than last season - and with three games remaining they could even claim a play-off place. That would be a tall order as they need to pick up all nine points and then rely on all the other teams in the running to slip up.
However, assistant boss Richard Hill maintains the season is something to be proud of, even if they don’t finish in the top six. He said: “Anything we achieve now will be the highest ever points total in Gillingham's Division 1 history.”
The Gills, who drew 1-1 at Walsall on Easter Saturday, bounced back to winning form with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Crewe Alexandra at Priestfield on East Monday.
Marlon King scored the all-important goal on the stroke of half-time from the penalty spot - his 20th of the season - although Hill insists it wasn't the most comprehensive win of the season.
He said: “I thought it was a typical Gillingham performance. We were a little bit loose in the first half with too many spaces and too many gaps about the pitch. But, in the end, the team came out of it deserving to be praised.”
Andy Hessenthaler’s side go to Burnley on Saturday before playing their last home game of the campaign against league leaders Manchester City the following Saturday.
The final game of the season sees Gillingham travel to Gianluca Vialli's Watford on April 21.
