After losing her father to cancer, 10-year-old Tallulah Jones decided she wanted to do something positive and raise money for the hospice that cared for him.
Tallulah, who goes to Woodlands Academy Primary School, Gillingham, had her hip-length hair cut to a bob, raising £1,840.12 for the Wisdom Hospice.
She said: “I did it because, after my dad passed away, I felt really bad and I wanted to raise some money to help out.
“I like having it short so I’m planning on keeping it short now.”
She also plans to donate her hair to The Little Princess Trust.
Her father, Phil Jones, died on May 4 after a battle with stomach cancer, aged 49.
He became ill at the end of 2013 and staff from the hospice had been caring for him since February 2014, visiting him at the family home in Rainham.
His wife of 12 years, Michelle Jones, said: “It would have meant so much to him, he would have been so proud of Tallulah. The hospice were so good when he was in their care.”
Mr and Mrs Jones, 40, took Tallulah and her younger brother Jasper, 7, on lots of trips to make the most of their time together, including Butlin’s, Harry Potter World, Chessington World of Adventures and Legoland.
Mrs Jones added: “He was such a family-orientated man, always trying to do his best for everyone.
“He was always cheerful and kept positive all the way through his illness. He really fought to give the children the best last year with him.”
The couple met when they were both working in financial services, and after being made redundant, they opened Thyme Out Sandwich Bar in Gillingham High Street.
They ran it for seven years but it closed just before Mr Jones became ill.
His funeral was held at the Garden of England Crematorium, Bobbing last Tuesday.
