A girl has been arrested following an alleged assault at a secondary school.
Police officers were on a routine visit to The Victory Academy, in Chatham, at around 11am yesterday (March 14) when the incident happened.
A spokeswoman for the force said they were made aware a teenage boy had sustained a cut to his head, believed to be caused by a wooden block.
Officers responded and a girl was arrested on suspicion of assault.
She has since been bailed until June 12 while inquiries into the circumstances continue.
A video shared with KentOnline by parents shows an altercation between two youngsters in the classroom which is thought to have happened before the reported assault.
In a letter to parents and carers issued today (March 15), head teacher Michelle Smith said: “I would first like to reassure you that everyone is safe and well.
“This was an isolated incident and our staff took immediate action to ensure it was quickly addressed.
“PC Parker, the school’s police officer who was already onsite for a routine visit, was also able to support immediately and in line with school procedure, we formally alerted the police.
“We are now working with the relevant authorities to support their inquiries and as such, we do not have any further information that we can share with you at this time.
“Following the outcome of any investigation, we will take any necessary action to ensure our high standards of behaviour and conduct continue to be met.”
She said there is inaccurate information being shared online and asked parents and carers to not speculate.
A spokesperson for the Thinking Schools Academy Trust, which runs the school in Magpie Hall Road, asked those who have any questions to contact the academy.
They added: “The safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance to us and we have robust procedures in place to safeguard the health and wellbeing of our students.
“Given this is an ongoing investigation we are not able to comment any further and are now working closely with the relevant authorities to support their inquiries.”
Update: On June 12, a police spokesman confirmed no further police action will be taken.
