A supermarket has slashed its diesel price to the lowest in six years.

Drivers filling up at Asda in Gillingham will only pay 97.7p per litre for diesel from today (Friday) - a price cut of 2p per litre.

It is good news for motorists as the other big supermarkets are likely to also reduce their prices at the pumps.

Morrisons was the first to cut the cost of diesel to under £1 at the beginning of January and the other supermarkets did the same within a few days.

The cost of unleaded remains at 99.7p per litre across the UK after falling in November last year.

Andy Peake, Asda’s senior petrol director said: “We’re delighted to be the first retailer to take diesel to its lowest price level in over six years.

"This latest announcement shows that we’re committed to being the driving force behind lowering fuel prices across the UK regardless of where you live.”

RAC’s Fuel Watch has predicted fuel prices could plummet by up to 10p this year.
