The Green Party has picked Cat Jamieson as its contender for the Rochester and Strood constituency.
She was voted for selection by local members and is the first candidate chosen by the party for any of the three Medway seats.
Previously having worked with Medway Youth Trust and the British Youth Council, she says she is passionate about addressing climate change, the ecological crisis and addressing inequality.
She will be taking on incumbent MP Kelly Tolhurst (Con) who has held the seat since 2015 and gained a 17,000 majority in 2019.
Ms Jamieson said: "I am immensely proud to be the Green Party candidate for my home constituency.
“I have been promoting environmental and social justice issues through my work with various groups in Medway and look forward to engaging even more with the local residents
"I have been an active campaigner in Medway for Medway Green Party for five years and spoken to residents across Strood, Rochester, The Peninsula towns and villages, Cuxton, Halling and the constituency areas of Chatham and Gillingham.
“Cat has the experience and skills needed to connect with people across Medway…”
“I understand the issues that people are concerned about including health and public services, the environment, over-development, politicians not working in the interests of residents, and I pledge to represent everyone regardless of their personal political choices."
Trish Marchant, co-chair of Medway Greens, said: "We are fortunate to have such an outstanding candidate representing not just the Green Party but the diverse needs and aspirations of the Rochester and Strood constituency and the wider Medway Towns.
“Cat has the experience and skills needed to connect with people across Medway."
Current polling from Electoral Calculus suggests Rochester and Strood is likely to be a seat lost by the Conservatives when the general election comes, predicting a swing to Labour.
