An Imam from Medway has condemned Donald Trump for retweeting videos posted by Britain First.
Imam Safeer Khan has called the move "stupid" and says it undermines the work communities do to bring people together.
He told the Messenger: “These kind of videos are shared on the internet all the time.
“He retweeted that and didn’t look at the background or even if he did he should be sensitive enough to know it doesn’t reflect a whole religion.
“It was tweeted by Britain First and we know what they are about and supporting them doesn’t help solve the situation.
“We condemn his actions.”
The president retweeted three posts by Jayda Fransen, the deputy leader of Britain First and former candidate in the Rochester and Strood by-election.
They were videos of a man, believed to be a Muslim migrant attacking a young Dutch man on crutches.
However, a spokesman from the Netherlands Embassy in Washington has since tweeted to confirm the man was born and raised in the Netherlands.
Mr Khan added: “We will continue to do what we do. It does feel like it’s a stupid thing like that does undermine all the great work communities are doing, not just us.
“We have continually condemned extremism. Muslims who do these things and saying these things, it is not Islam.
“It gives fuel to these people who want to promote this type of hatred. In US there has been so much rising hatred especially after Donald Trump's election.
“I’m not against Donald Trump. I support the leaders because I know they’re trying their best but this is not the way. They need to work together and have respect for each other.”
