A school which was in the bottom 200 in the country a few years ago has just received its first Outstanding Ofsted rating.
Luton Junior head teacher Davinder Jandu, who was called “inspirational” in the report, says the inspectors’ observations made emotional reading.
She said: “Michael Gove put us in the bottom 200 schools six years ago and to be now be recognised as Outstanding in all areas is an amazing achievement.
“It couldn’t have been done without the hard work and dedication of the team of adults at the school who put the children’s education first.
“We were described as a haven of care respect, friendship and learning and it’s one of my favourite lines in the report.
“It captures the school perfectly in the education, mentoring and guidance we give the pupils.
“It’s a lovely report and it makes me quite emotional to read.”
The report commended the school on Luton Road for its remarkable improvements and hard work from the teachers.
The report reads: “The school is a haven of care, respect, friendship and learning, situated in the very centre of the diverse community it serves.
“The inspirational head teacher has led a remarkable improvement in all aspects of the school so pupils now receive an outstanding education.
“Over time, teachers deepen pupils’ knowledge, understanding and skills so they make great progress.
“Disadvantaged pupils make faster progress than other pupils nationally.
“Inclusion and equality of opportunity are at the heart of everything this school does.
“Poor behaviour is very rare and bullying is not tolerated by pupils or staff.”
The accuracy of pupils’ spelling and use of punctuation and grammar were the only areas the school needed to improve on.
In the past, the school has struggled with social problems, including racial tensions that led to a boy being hit with a metal bar in 2007.
Mrs Jandu was brought into turn the struggling school and it received its first Good report in 2013.
