It appears the sight of pupils taking part in a protest against plans to close their schools didn’t go down well with Medway Council.
The print edition of the Medway Messenger today publishes an email posted to head teachers by a top education official.
It asks if pupils who took part in the demo at a Cabinet meeting had permission to do so. The memo also suggests schools put plans in place to make up for the loss of pupils’ learning time.
Medway Council has defended the email, saying: "Pupils’ education is a priority. We are keen to ensure that all voices affected by the proposed changes to primary school education are heard, but have asked for the schools’ governors to confirm that arrangements have been made to ensure children ... made up any learning time they may have lost."
Nicole Caulfield, head of St Peter’s Infants, said: "Our chair of governors responded and stated the children should be involved in the process as it’s their educational future."
