Coastguard helicopter circles River Medway in Rochester and Strood in search for man

The coastguard helicopter was launched this morning after concerns were raised about a man's welfare.

The chopper could be seen and heard circling over the River Medway, before landing on the riverbank in Strood.

Police requested the coastguard's help after the alarm was raised in the early hours, but the man was found safe and well.

A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 3.25am on Wednesday 14 October to a report of concern for the welfare of a man thought to be in the area of Canal Road, Strood.

"He has since been found safe and well."
