The police helicopter was hovering over the River Medway this morning in the search for a distressed man.

Police officers were called to the M2 bridge at Rochester at 11.20pm last night in a bid to locate him.

The search continued overnight and resumed this morning at about 8am.

A Borstal resident said:"It woke me at about 12.30am and went on for at least a good hour or so.

"It was around the motorway bridge area, but went up and down the river lots of times."
