Rochester was invaded by a sea of St Nick’s as people flocked to the High Street to take part in a festive fun run.

Hundreds of runners and walkers, both young and old, donned Santa outfits and followed a parade of bag pipers marching from outside Rochester Castle, on Saturday.

Smiling shoppers took photos as the cheerful convoy danced and waved on their way past and for a moment it felt like Christmas had come early in the Medway towns.

The event was organised by the Rotary Club of Medway to raise money for its children’s hospice holidays charity and included a performance from Jamie Johnson, a former contestant on BBC singing contest, The Voice.

KMFM also got in on the fun and hosted a roadshow and the Right Step Dance Company performed.

If this was not enough excitement for some, those feeling dangerous could test their grip on a bucking reindeer.

After all that walking, running or just plain being merry, people taking part in the run could enjoy a free buffet at the Crown Freehouse.

The total of money raised is yet to be confirmed but organisers will no doubt hope they have beaten last year’s impressive total of £15,000, raised by around 1,200 Santas.
