The parents of a young man who has been missing for two years have never given up hope that one day he may come home.

Richard Lambert has not been seen since the early hours of Saturday, June 13, 2009, after a night out.

Despite an extensive police investigation and heartfelt appeals by his mum and dad, Marion and John, his disappearance remains a mystery.

Speaking shortly after the second anniversary of Richard's disappearance, Mr Lambert, of Fowey Close, Chatham, said: "There is no change in the position. There have been no sightings and no news at all.

"We still have visits from the police but they have exhausted every avenue open to them. The support they have given us has gone beyond the call of duty.

"We are still waiting for a breakthrough in some form or other but it has not materialised." He revealed that Richard's room is still waiting for him if he was to return.

"There is still a room here for him, the bed is made up and ready for him if he needs it and wants to come back.

"We just don't know what has happened," said Mr Lambert. "If he reads this I would say to Richard: 'Please put us out of our misery and get in touch. We miss you just as much as we did two years ago. We'd give anything to know you are OK'."

He said he and his wife marked the anniversary on Monday by going to work.

"We just had a very quiet day trying not to upset each other but we were all on tenterhooks over the weekend."

He said their daughter Natalie had just returned from university while Richard's younger brother Ben was doing his GCSEs.

"Marion and I have been trying to keep the household as safe as we can for those two."

He said the family was frequently stopped in the street by people who knew Richard or had heard of him.

"They all ask if we have heard anything but we haven't," said John. "The mechanics where he used to work are just as confused as anyone.

"It is a complete mystery and keeps churning over in our minds. He has still got money in the bank, credits in his bank accounts, therefore it is not as though he was in dire straits.

"His accounts have not been touched except for the direct debits which came out directly after he disappeared. It is a complete and utter mystery.

"What ever he has done he has clearly decided to do it off his own bat. He will be 22 in July. I know full well he was quite capable of looking after himself. I hope that's what he has done."
