Holcombe go into this Sunday’s Kent Cup final looking to start a new dynasty after defeat in last year’s showpiece event.
After several years of success in the competition, Holcombe were upset by Canterbury 2nds in 2008, but are looking to make amends against Ashford this year.
Goals from David Matthews and Adnan Zakir gave them a 2-1 win over Gore Court in the semi-final following previous wins against Tunbridge Wells (4-0) and Old Bordenians (13-1).
Ashford reached their first Kent Cup Final in 35 years after overcoming Old Williamsonians and Canterbury before a stunning 3-2 semi-final win over Marden Russetts with a goal 13 seconds from time.
Team manager Mike Haines (pictured above) said: “We won it four or five times on the bounce before last year and hopefully we can go out and win it again.
“Ashford have had some good results and have done very well so it will be a tough one.
“We will need to be up for it. It is a cup game so on the day anything can happen, but if we play to our standard I’m sure we can win.”
The Holcombe Ladies will look to secure a Kent Cup double on the same day on the same ground when they look to repeat their penalty shoot-out victory over rivals Maidstone in last year’s final.
