Holcombe ladies got their East Women’s League Premier Division campaign off to a winning start, 3-1 at home to Wapping on Saturday.
Lauren Osborn and Katie Ogden put them 2-0 ahead at half-time. Wapping pulled one back but Jennie Hoyte made the game safe.
Holcombe dominated the game for long periods but will need to increase their conversion rate from short corners after scoring only twice from around 20 attempts.
Team manager Mike Haines admitted: "We had the major share of possession and were well worth our lead. They came back in the second half with a spell but we deserved our win.
"We’ve got to work on the training ground on our short corners. It can prove crucial in the top games and if you have a conversion rate of 30 per cent then you are doing well. We fell well short of that target."
