A hole has opened up on a busy residential road junction in Chatham.

Council highways engineers and police have been at the scene this morning to warn drivers travelling into Lester Road from Magpie Hall Road.

Several square feet beneath the tarmac has disappeared.

Highways engineers were unable to explain the cause of the hole, but did not think it had been caused by this week's rain.
