Kevin Lusted and Jane Taylor’s home for the last six weeks has been a 13-year-old Ford Mondeo.

The couple claim they have been forced to sleep in the grey car for the past month after a housing row involving a family friend.

The pair spend what little money they have on petrol and food. In order to keep clean they have to shower at the service station on the M2.

Each has a bag of clothes, and they carry tins of food, a kettle and small stove to cook.

Every night they sleep at a different location, putting down the back seats in their car to fashion a makeshift bed.

They claim they were kicked out of Parr Avenue, Gillingham on April 30 and did not have time to collect their possessions.

This includes their washing machine, cooker and dog, a two-year-old whippet called Alfie.

The pair moved from their home in Darnley Road, Strood, to help Samantha Francis after the birth of her child.

The couple estimate they have lost around £7,000 due to what has happened. Mr Lusted, 41, lost his job with a cleaning company in London in the aftermath.

He said he contacted police about the incident but was told it was a civil matter.

Mr Lusted said: “When it happened we were gobsmacked. Within seconds our whole life had been taken from us.”

The couple have approached Medway Council and the Citizens Advice Bureau to try and get a roof over their heads, but so far they have not had any luck.

When contacted, Samantha Francis denied having a part to play in the disappearance of the couple’s possessions and added: “I invited them into my home to help me out.

“Social services wanted me to move to another property, so I did what they said.”

A Medway Council spokesman said: “We can confirm we have been approached for advice and we have provided this person with advice on housing options available.”
