The number of homes proposed for the site - which neighbours Orchard Kennels and Cattery - was reduced from its previous application from 130 to 66.

The developer had wanted to build on 1.4 hectares of open countryside, which is deemed by Medway Council as an Area of Local Landscape Importance, and includes grazing fields and orchards.

Officers from the planning department decided against approving the development because of concerns about its impact on the highway network and the landscape.

Their decision was posted on Friday, March 5.
