A JustGiving page has raised more than £2,000 in two days for the family of an NHS worker struck down by coronavirus.
Cesar Velasco is a clinical support worker at Medway Maritime Hospital and is well known as a karate instructor, but is now battling for his life against Covid-19 having contracted the virus while working to help other sufferers.
Set up by Ben Taylor, the page has so far raised £2,190 for Cesar's family.
"With the blessing of Mayette, this page has been set up to support Cesar Velasco and his beautiful family," writes Ben. "Cesar is a very special person both in his working life and his personal life.
"Many reading this page will know him from various Karate clubs around the world. He is known, respected and loved by so many for his love and dedication for the sport and the caring way in which he shares his knowledge. He has a large karate family.
"Cesar’s day job is as clinical support in Medway hospital, where he provides care, love and support to those that are very unwell. It was during the act of selflessly performing this role, treating a number of people with COVID-19, that Cesar sadly contracted the virus.
"At the time of writing this page Cesar is in ICU himself – undergoing treatment and is fighting the COVID-19 virus with all he has! Many are already sending prayers, strength and support to Cesar’s family, but they will all need more in the coming months. Cesar's wife, Mayette is unable to work currently and no one knows how long this will be the case. That is why this page has been set up - they need our help.
"Please donate what you can to support Cesar and his beautiful family Mayette, Abi and little Warrior Audrey."
