A talented dance DJ from Medway has become the first musician to land the number one spot in the newly relaunched UK pop charts.
David Zowie, pictured here, who is from Chatham, reached the top spot in the singles chart with his club anthem track, House Every Weekend.
Zowie, who previously said his name was given to him by his dad who was a massive David Bowie fan, hit the top spot on DJ Greg James’ show on BBC Radio 1, yesterday (Friday).
Until yesterday, the UK pop charts number ones were not revealed until Sunday as they had been for almost 30 years.
Zowie joins singer Ed Sheeran who also landed the number one spot for his Album X.
The move from Sunday to Friday came after the music industry decided to release all albums and singles on Fridays worldwide.
But the time devoted to the top 40 on Radio 1 has been cut to one hour and 45 minutes, compared with the previous three hours.
The new chart show does reflect on the whole top 40, but focuses on the top 20, say BBC Radio 1 bosses.
Zowie started producing music at age 12, when he bought a pair of wooden decks and then SoundLabs, and started producing when he was just 14.
