An elderly man had to be treated for the effects of smoke inhalation after firefighters tackled two separate house fires overnight.
Crews from Medway were called out to deal with a front room fire at a maisonette in Wingham Close, Gillingham, and a bedroom fire at a home in Sundridge Drive, Walderslade during Saturday evening.
Two fire engines, along with police and ambulance crews were called to the maisonette at about 8.10pm and crews used breathing apparatus to enter the building and tackled a fire in the front room of the property.
They also used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the home of smoke and a spokesman said no one suffered any injury during the incident and the flames had been put out by 8.40pm.
While they dealt with that fire, their colleagues were called out to the two-storey home in Sundridge Drive, Chatham, where they found a fire had broken out in the bedroom of the property.
An elderly man who was at the home was treated by paramedics for the effects of smoke and by 9pm firefighters were ventilating the home to clear it of smoke and fumes and remained at the scene damping down hot spots.
The crews left the scene shortly before 10pm.
