Councillors are expected to refuse a major application to build 800 new homes in Capstone Valley.

The Attwood farming family wants permission to develop agricultural land which runs alongside North Dane Way, Lordswood, in what has been described as Medway's "green lung".

The proposed site, East Hill, is next to Capstone Farm Country Park.

The plans also include a two-form entry primary school, a GP surgery, shops and three play areas.

Tomorrow (Wednesday, March 3), Medway Council's planning committee will consider the planning application which officers have recommended councillors refuse due to its adverse impact on the landscape, namely, 48 hectares of agricultural land and an area of ancient woodland.

The application has attracted more than 900 letters of objection including from MPs Tracey Crouch and Rehman Chishti.

The same company, FD Attwood and Partners, wanted permission to build 450 homes south of East Hill at Gibraltar Farm.

In January, councillors turned down the proposals on the grounds of how people would access the site, which is also bordered by North Dane Way.

The application was refused by Medway Council but was subsequently approved by the government following an appeal.
