A teenage boy arrested in connection with the mugging of a vulnerable man has been released without charge.

Bradley Hannan, who weighs just six stone, was viciously attacked as he waited for a bus in Luton Road, Chatham.

Mr Hannan, who has previously battled three brain tumours, was dragged into an alleyway near the May Moon Chinese takeaway and punched in the head before his wallet and mobile phone were stolen.

A boy of 17, who has not been named, was arrested on suspicion of robbery following the attack on Wednesday, November 18.

But after returning to Medway police station on bail on Monday, he has been released without charge.

And Kent Police say they are no longer actively investigating the case.

Mr Hannan, 29, who lives in Lordswood, had been volunteering at Medway Maritime Hospital and was making his way home when he was mugged.

At the time, his sister Daniela Golding posted about what happened on Facebook, urging witnesses to come forward.

She said: “My beautiful brave brother, all six stone of him, was dragged up an alley on Luton Road and punched in his precious head which has already battled three brain tumours and then mugged of his wallet with cash and his phone, a Samsung Galaxy s5.

“I am heartbroken because he would not hurt a fly so how anyone can harm him makes me feel sick.”

Mrs Golding asked people to share the post in the hope her brother’s attacker would be caught. It prompted a huge response across the Towns.

An online fundraising page was set up to help replace Mr Hannan’s phone and the money that was taken. In just a few days it generated more than £3,000.

Staff at Tesco Extra in Gillingham offered to replace Mr Hannan’s phone. Real 60 FC and the Kent Broken Bikers Charity Club were among those who contributed to the fundraising.

A spokesman for Kent Police said the case has been filed pending any further evidence coming to light.
