An inquest into the death of a father-of five who died on Valentines Day, four days after being involved in an alleged brawl, has been opened.

Paul Scott, 43, pictured, died from a blood clot after being injured in the alleged fracas, which happened in Balmoral Road, Gillingham, on Sunday, February 10.

Mr Scott, a warehouse operative from Franklin Road, in the town, suffered a broken leg during the incident and didn’t instantly go to hospital for treatment.

However, later the same day Feb 10, an ambulance was called to his home and he was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital, in Gillingham, where a cast was put on his leg and he was later discharged.

However, four days later, another ambulance had to be called to his home after he collapsed.

He was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead at 9.58am.

The inquest into his death was opened and adjourned at the Archbishop’s Palace, in Maidstone, today.

The cause of his death was given as pulmonary thromboembolism, deep vein thrombosis and a fracture of the right fibula.

A full inquest into his death will be held after the criminal investigation into his death has concluded.

Robert Alderman, of Canadian Avenue, Gillingham, has been charged with his murder has been remanded in custody until, Wednesday, May 1, when he will appear at Maidstone Crown Court.

A trial date has been provisionally set for August 5.
