Police say they are not treating the death of a man found with head injuries at his home as suspicious.
The man was found at an address in Lonsdale Drive, Rainham on Friday, December 30, and sadly died on Sunday, January 1.
Initially officers said they were treating the death as unexplained and were awaiting results from a post-mortem test, but now they say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
The man has been named locally as Patrick Mannion.
Forensic teams, police vehicles and a command support unit have been parked up outside the property for several days and one police car remains there this morning.
Officers have been carrying out door-to-door inquiries and forensic officers were seen searching for evidence outside the house.
The property is near to the bottom of Lonsdale Drive near Broadview Avenue.
One woman, a neighbour who didn’t want to be named said: “There was loads of police there again today and forensic officers out the front.
“Then officers started knocking on doors nearby asking questions. I’d heard there had been a body found.”
Another neighbour said: "I have been here for 20 years but we don’t really know our neighbours.
“We have a lot of elderly neighbours so when we saw the ambulance we thought something had happened.
She added: “The man who lived there was always working on his car - he was restoring an old one.
“We came back on Friday at around quarter to four and saw the ambulance. At about 4.30pm the following day there was a big flatbed here and it took the car away.
“There’s been lots of forensics officers coming and going."
Another neighbour said officers had been focusing their investigations in the garage at the property and had carried out extensive searches inside.
A spokesman for Kent Police confirmed a man had died.
She added: “Kent Police was called at 3.31pm on Friday, 30 December to report of a man suffering from a head injury at a property in Londsdale Drive, Gillingham.
“Officers attended along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and he was taken to a London hospital where he died on Sunday, January 1.
A police spokesman said there would be no further police action regarding a 56-year-old woman who was arrested on New Year's Eve on suspicion of attempted murder.
