Invicta Dynamos captain Andy Smith reached a record-breaking 700th career point for the club as he led the Mos to a 3-2 victory over the Chelmsford Chieftains in the ENIHL Southern Cup on Sunday.
Smith (pictured) scored early on and then assisted on Ryan Ellis's strike which gave Dynamos a 2-0 at the end of the first period.
Chelmsford dominated the second period but were denied a breakthrough by a string of fine saves from Invicta netminder Andy Moffat.
The Chieftains eventually broke their duck 10 minutes from the buzzer through Danny Hammond, only for Invicta's new signing, 19-year-old forward Callum Best, to score on his home debut. Chelmsford scored again four minutes from time through Dwayne Newman but Invicta held on for a victory which maintained their interest in the competition.
On Saturday, the Dynamos lost 3-2 at the Wightlink Raiders in a league game.
Invicta suffered a disastrous opening period at the Ryde Arena as the hosts raced into a 3-0 lead through Dominic Hopkins, Jeremy Cornish and Conor Pollard.
The Dynamos refused to let their heads drop, however, and they were back in the game when Smith finished off good work by Ellis before the end of the second period.
At the start of the third, Ellis claimed a goal himself to set up a tense finale but, despite outshooting their hosts by 16 efforts to 11 in the final frame, Dynamos were to unable to find an equaliser.
