It is crunch time for Invicta Dynamos this weekend ahead of their Christmas break.
Kevin Parrish’s side will sign off for three weeks after a tough double-header against Cardiff Devils and Romford Raiders which could well dictate their fortunes for the rest of the season.
With the Raiders second in the table and Cardiff one place lower, Parrish (pictured) knows that fifth-placed Dynamos must pick up two points from their home game with the Devils on Saturday (5.15pm) to keep the Welsh side within range.
He said: "Realistically, I think the best we can hope for now in terms of qualifying for the play-offs is third place. That’s why it’s important we beat Cardiff because we can’t afford the gap between them and us to become too big."
The Devils are eight points clear of Parrish’s side but Dynamos have six matches in hand on them. The sides have met once so far this season in a bad-tempered affair in early October which Cardiff won 8-3, thanks in no small part to a six-goal contribution from Jamie Hayes.
The Dynamos defence will have to keep a tight rein on Hayes and cut out the kind of errors which led to their 6-4 defeat against Raiders two weeks ago, with Parrish adding: "We made four bad errors against Romford which cost us the game and so we’ve got to cut that out.
"But I said to the boys in training this week, ‘look, we’ve already beaten leaders Chelmsford this season, we’ve beaten Romford, so there’s no reason why we can’t win both games this weekend'."
