Invicta Dynamos quest for more silverware to add to the National League title ended in disappointment at the final hurdle in Coventry on Sunday.
The Mos returned to the Sky Dome - the scene of the previous week’s triumph against Sheffield - but after beating Bracknell Hornets in the ENIHL Playoff semi-finals, they lost to Nottingham Lions in the final.
After victory in the National League final, the Mos were seen as favourites to add playoff glory, despite Milan Kostolny being banned for the weekend.
Invicta raced into a 3-0 first period lead against the Berkshire side in the last four on Saturday, the Hornets did narrow the gap to 5-3 after two periods but the Mos sealed their progress to the final with a sixth goal in the final period.
Nottingham - who finished level on points with northern section rivals Sheffield in the regular season - roared into a 2-0 lead in the final but the Mos had pulled one back by the end of the first period and by the end of the second it was 2-2.
It stayed that way until full-time and throughout the extra period and the game eventually came down to penalties and in sudden-death Elliot Andrews missed to hand the Lions the title.
