A chocolate brand has created the largest Easter egg in the UK, standing at 7ft tall and approximately weighing nearly 300kg.
Cocoba, which has a store at Bluewater Shopping Centre in Greenhithe, is no stranger to huge chocolate eggs as it is known for its mega 2kg and 4kg products.
But this project, which was created at the company’s factory in Knight Road, Strood, was a different task all together and took five days and two attempts to accomplish.
Plans for the gigantic egg, which weighs the same as three baby elephants, five humans and a water buffalo, started as a joke between colleagues, but with input from founder Darren Litton, and requests from customers, the chocolate engineers attempted to put their ideas into action.
But the execution didn’t come easy and the company had a specially designed mould brought in which “looked like a bathtub”.
Workers then filled it by hand, section by section, and had to wait for the chocolate to harden in between as well as leaving it 24 hours to finally solidify.
Head chocolate engineer Lukasz Zajac said: “It’s definitely one of my biggest achievements as a chocolate engineer. Darren might think twice next time, before challenging us to go bigger and better for Easter.”
The egg is being stored in the Cocoba factory, which helps keeps the chocolate at an optimal temperature, and will be melted down and turned into approximately 3,000 limited edition chocolate bars which will be sold on its website.
A portion of the profits of which will be donated to local charities, which haven’t been decided yet.
Mr Litton added: “We are also passionate about making premium chocolate products with a difference, and it’s nice to be able to give something back to the community by donating some of our profits.
“Particularly as we are aware of ongoing cost of living challenges and the rising price of chocolate.”
Cocoba doesn’t plan on stopping any time soon and are in the middle of planning an even more extraordinary egg for next year.
