A mother is still on the run with her seven-year-old son despite court orders in Britain and Poland for him to be returned to his Medway father.
The family of Max Bagnall, from Rochester, say it is a “travesty” that Jolanta Majda, 31, has been able to evade justice.
Max was taken without his father Alex Bagnall’s consent in August last year.
His family have been fighting a legal battle at home and abroad, and last month a High Court judge in Poland agreed with a UK ruling that Max be brought home immediately. But Miss Majda took Max out of school, deleted her phone number and social media account, and disappeared.
Max’s grandfather, Andy Bagnall, said the family have been fighting single-handedly to get him home despite promises from the Prime Minister to help.
David Cameron stated he would do all he could to help the family after Rochester and Strood MP Kelly Tolhurst brought attention to the family’s plight in Prime Minister’s Questions last month.
He also said he would inform the Foreign Secretary, and the Ministry of Justice’s International Child Abduction Unit and Contact Unit would stay in touch with them, but Mr Bagnall claims all they have told him to do is to contact the Polish police.
Mr Bagnall said: “I’ve emailed [Foreign Secretary] Philip Hammond four times and he hasn’t replied.
“It’s been 12 days since I went to Poland myself to report Max missing and I haven’t had any information from the police.
“We are in a lucky situation where I have a half-decent job and can afford to fight.
"It’s cost me £10,000 so far. Luckily I have contacts in Poland so we were able to get a decent Polish solicitor. It’s obscene the UK government can’t intervene or give us any advice. The whole thing is a travesty.”
Ms Tolhurst said the search for Max was now in the hands of the Polish police, who were being assisted by Kent Police and the Crown Prosecution Service.
She said: “I was delighted to learn the Bagnall family and the Polish court was successful in ordering the return of Max to his father and family in Rochester.
“I am aware of the actions Ms Majda has since taken but I remain positive that Max will be returned safe and well as soon as possible. In the meantime, the family has put out a missing person profile on social media.
“After so many months of distress for the Bagnalls, I am encouraged that we are now close to achieving the outcome that so much love, drive and resource has been devoted to.”
Mr Bagnall added: “When we knew where he was at least we knew he was safe, but he has been removed from school and from other children.
“What this will do to him mentally doesn’t bear thinking about. Nobody is helping us – we’re doing the detective work ourselves.”
A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said: “We have been providing advice and support to him and will remain in close contact with Polish authorities about this case.”
