A Jaguar car caught fire on the Esplanade this morning due to an electrical fault.

The driver, a man in his 50s, had to pull over after he noticed smoke coming out of the passenger side of the dashboard.

It happened at around 5am and the passenger side of his vehicle caught fire soon after he stopped.

Firefighters, who spent 40 minutes putting out the fire, said the passenger side of the dashboard was "engulfed in flames".

The man was unharmed and the car is due to be recovered later this morning.
