A large police presence is in a village following a suspected serious incident.

Officers have cordoned off an area near the M2 Medway bridge in Borstal since about 2pm and remain at the scene.

Witnesses reported seeing police officers searching woodland and bushes lining a pathway leading to the top of the motorway bridge off Warwick Crescent.

A resident from the village, who asked not to be named, said: "I just tried walking under the motorway bridge with my dog towards the riverside but it was taped off. There's loads of police."

It has not yet been confirmed why police are in the area.
