A large search and rescue operation has been launched on the River Medway after someone apparently reported a body was floating in the River Medway.
The emergency services were called out to Medway Bridge Marina in Borstal, Rochester, shortly before 7am after a motorist driving on the London-bound carriageway apparently spotted a body floating in the river.
The report suggested the body floating was wearing a green jumper, but as yet, nothing has been found.
Ambulance crews, police, and firefighters and members of the coastguard team were called out to the scene and police helicopter could be seen making its way up and down the river searching for any sign of the body.
It is understood so far the only thing spotted by the search teams was a seal basking on one of the banks of the river.
Lucy Hurdle, spokesman for police said: "Kent Police was called at 6.58am a report that a motorist had seen a body in the River Medway, near to the Medway Bridge.
"Officers have attended and currently no body has been located.
"Inquiries are ongoing."
