Man in hospital and lanes closed coastbound on the M2 between Chatham and Rochester after two-lorry crash

A man has been taken to hospital after a crash involving “two lorries” led to six-mile tailbacks on a motorway.

Three out of four lanes have been closed coastbound on the M2 from J2 A228 Sundridge Hill for Strood and Rochester to J3 for Chatham and Rochester following the collision just before 8am this morning.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: “We were called at 7.47am to a collision involving two lorries on the coastbound carriageway of the M2 between junctions 2 and 3.

“Officers and paramedics attended the scene where a man was treated for injuries. He was taken to a local hospital for further medical attention.”

Congestion is back to junction one for Strood.

Traffic diverting off the motorway caused gridlock on surrounding routes, including much longer than usual queues on the A289 Wainscott Bypass.
