Ooh la la – staff of this year’s Medway Business of the Year could be off to Paris as a reward for their achievements.
The small team at Elsatex were overjoyed on a never-to-be-forgotten night at the Rochester Corn Exchange when the textile supplier won the prestigious accolade, a trophy and cheque for £500.
Director Stephen Lowe, who founded the business seven years ago with wife Anny, could not believe it.
He said: “I’m absolutely amazed. We have always kept a low profile and to win this award is fantastic.”
The father of two said the prize money would go towards a staff celebration, adding: “We may go to Paris. It will definitely be an office trip to somewhere.”
Elsatex, based in Priory Road, Strood, supplies textiles such as towels and tea towels to health clubs, hospitals, retailers and overseas customers.
Turnover has rocketed to £5 million and a growth accelerator programme could take it to £10m within a few years.
A glittering gala dinner, hosted by BBC South East Today presenter Rob Smith, marked the climax to the 29th annual Medway Business Awards.
Twelve finalists each won a framed certificate, while trophies for special achievement went to Cura Energy, RedDoor Homes, Questor Insurance and MC Personnel.
The awards are sponsored by A Better Medway, ECITB, E.on, Furley Page, Kent Business School, KM Media Group, Lloyds Bank, Medway council, Perducta, Reeves, University for the Creative Arts, and the University of Greenwich
