Pictures from the scene show the white vehicle on its roof, with four of five lanes on the London-bound carriage blocked.

At least two police cars, an ambulance and half a dozen officers were seen at the site of the crash ushering traffic down one lane.

Earlier this morning, a National Highways spokesman told motorists: “If you're heading M2 this morning, please be aware of the ongoing closure westbound between J3 and J2 near Rochester following a serious collision.”

It was cleared and fully reopened by 4am.

Police and the ambulance service have been contacted for more information.
