Two children have been rescued from a serious crash which closed the M2.
Emergency services were called to the coastbound carriageway between junction 4 for Hempstead and junction 5 for Sittingbourne at around 5.10am.
The smash involved a grey Vauxhall Astra and a red Citroen Berlingo on the coastbound carriageway under the Moto Medway services near Gillingham.
A police spokesman said: "Two children who were travelling in the Berlingo were treated for injuries at the scene.
“They were taken to hospital where they remain in a serious but stable condition. The driver of the Astra was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.”
Kent Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are now looking into the matter and want anyone with dashcam footage or information to come forward.
Ivghenie Danut was inside the services at around 8.30am when he saw the wreckage from the crash.
He said: “We were inside and the police had already stopped traffic on the M2.
"They were taking measurements and waiting for recovery. There were about four police crews and two motorway traffic crews.”
The road was closed from junction 3 for Blue Bell Hill for more than seven hours but reopened just after midday.
Anybody who witnessed the collision or saw either of the vehicles beforehand should call the SCIU witness appeal line on 01622 798538, or email sciu.td@kent.pnn.police.uk quoting HW/KA/135/23.
