Police were called to Junction 3 of the M2 near Walderslade at 3.45pm today after a Ford Ka collided with a pick-up truck carrying a digger.

A woman was reported to have suffered a minor injury, and all three lanes of the London-bound carriageway were closed while emergency services attended.

Traffic came to a standstill on the M2 and roads around Junction 3 as drivers were diverted off the motorway.

Police say the road was re-opened at 4.20pm but drivers reported that roads remained gridlocked afterwards.
