M2 closed between Junction 3, Chatham, and Junction 4, Gillingham, after serious crash

Part of the M2 is set to remain shut for the rest of the day following a serious crash involving a motorbike.

Police closed the entire motorway between Junction 3 (Chatham and Rochester) and Junction 4 (Gillingham) at about 2.40pm.

The London-bound side reopened about 90 minutes later, but the coastbound carriageway is still blocked.

National Highways has described the incident as a “serious collision involving a motorcycle”.

It says it expects the route “will remain shut for the rest of the day”.

“The M2 remains closed coastbound between Junction 3 for Chatham and Junction 4 for Hempstead,” it said.

“The London-bound carriageway has reopened.

“There are 20 minute delays coastbound on the approach to Junction 3.”

Police confirmed they were called at about 2.40pm and remain at the scene.
