A main road was closed off by police following a crash involving a lorry and a car.
It happened on the A289 between the Four Elms Roundabout in Wainscott and B2000 slip road.
Drivers trying to head towards the M2, A2 and A226 were being diverted and congestion was reportedly affecting the A228 and Medway City Estate.
Roads around Wainscott were also struggling as motorists tried to find alternative routes.
The road has since reopened but emergency services were still at the scene at 5pm.
A spokesman from the police said: “We were called at 1.42pm to a collision involving a lorry and a car on A2-bound carriageway of the A289 Hasted Road, near Wainscott.
“Officers attended the scene where no injuries were reported.
“The carriageway is currently closed due to a diesel spillage and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.”
One fire engine also attended to assist police officers and KCC highway crews worked to clear the road.
The Medway-bound carriageway of the A289 remains unaffected.
