A major search operation was launched after reports of a body in a river.
Coastguard and lifeboat teams were among emergency services called to the Strood and Rochester sides of the River Medway.
Police and fire crews were also called on Friday evening after concerns were raised.
A coastguard spokesman said: “At about 5.30pm, we received reports of a body in waters.
“Coastguard rescue teams from Sheppey and Medway were called, alongside an HM Coastguard Rescue helicopter and RNLI Sheerness lifeboat.
“A search was conducted and with nothing untoward found, stood down at 9pm.
“The fire service and police also attended.”
A police spokesperson confirmed officers were called after an object in the River Medway near the Esplanade in Rochester was believed to be a person.
