Man charged with rape of woman in Gillingham Park, near Canterbury Street

A man has been charged with the rape of a woman and is set to appear in court.

It is alleged to have happened at around 8.30pm on Sunday, October 27 in Gillingham Park, near the Canterbury Street entrance.

Police pursued several lines of inquiry to establish the full circumstances.

This included forensic analysis at the scene and checks of CCTV.

Following the initial enquiries, officers arrested a man the following day.

Thomas Cahill, 43, of Audley Avenue, Gillingham, has since been charged with rape.

He appeared at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, October 31.

Cahill was remanded to appear at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, November 29.
