Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after reported assault in Gillingham

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a reported assault in Gillingham.

Police were called to Johnson Avenue, Gillingham, following after an altercation between two men, believed to be known to each other, which led to a man being taken to hospital with a serious injury.

The incident was reported at 6.53am yesterday. As part of the ongoing investigation a man aged in his forties from Chatham has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Officers also arrested a woman in her 40s from Ashford, as well as a man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s, both from Gillingham.

They have all been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

An investigation is being carried out by the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate and enquiries are ongoing to locate the other man involved in the altercation, who may also have sustained injuries.

There were unconfirmed rumours that the incident involved a shooting.
