A man has been charged with grievous bodily harm without intent, after an alleged road rage incident in Rochester.

Officers investigating the incident which happened on the corner of The Esplanade and High Street have charged a 25-year-old man.

Police were called to a report that a cyclist had been assaulted following an altercation with a motorcyclist at 10.07am on Sunday, May 28.

A man in his 60s was taken to a London Hospital for treatment to serious head injuries where he still remains.

Earlier today, John Paterson, of Frindsbury Road, Strood, was charged with grievous bodily harm without intent, driving while disqualified and using a motor vehicle without third party insurance.

He has been bailed to attend Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, July 25.

The cyclist suffered serious head injuries in the an alleged road rage attack.

A baseball cap and a blood-stained item of clothing were left on the pavement outside The Crown pub, near to where it happened.

The area outside the pub was cordoned off by police and a crowd of people watched as the helicopter landed on the Esplanade.

A woman, who did not wish to be named, said: “We were sitting on the grass on the Esplanade and we saw the helicopter.

"It looked quite serious with all of the police cars.”

The incident did not have anything to do with The Crown, which was open as usual.
