A man has been charged after an off-duty police officer was stabbed in Strood.

The officers was airlifted to hospital after the assault, which took place in Commercial Road during the early hours of Monday July 18.

Police say he suffered serious injuries, but has since been discharged.

On Friday July 22, Harvey Smalling, 19, of Eldred Drive, Orpington, was charged with affray and grievous bodily harm with intent.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court.
