Strood man due in court after Mini Cooper mounts roundabout in Dartford, after police chase on Christmas Day

A man from Strood has been charged with several offences after a vehicle allegedly stolen ended up on top of a roundabout during a police chase.

Ashley Hornby, 38, was arrested after a car was reported stolen from a house in Caspian Way, Swanscombe, at around 9.30pm on December, 24.

Officers were alerted to a car matching the description being seen near Shepherds Lane, Dartford, at around 3.30pm on Christmas Day.

Officers followed the vehicle before it allegedly tried to make off.

The Mini Cooper was left on top of a roundabout in Watling Street five minutes later.

As well as the car, Christmas presents were also reported to have been stolen along with items of clothing.

Hornby, of Weston Road, Strood, has been charged with two counts of taking a motor vehicle without consent, one count of failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis, driving without insurance and driving while disqualified.

He has been released under investigation pending inquiries into the burglary.

Hornby is due to appear in Medway Magistrates' Court this morning.
