A driver has appeared in court accused of causing serious injury to a man walking his dog after a late-night crash that killed the pooch.

The crash happened at 11.40pm on the B2000 on April 6, 2023, and the impact killed the walker’s dog.

At the time of the incident, Mr Alexander was taken to hospital with serious injuries and spent some time recovering.

It is understood Jacobs, who was 39 at the time of the crash, was arrested later that night in Bexley while he was a passenger in another car.

Jacobs, of Jarrett Avenue, Rochester, was later charged with causing serious injury by careless driving.

The 40-year-old appeared before magistrates in Maidstone on March 3 and pleaded not guilty.

Sidumiso Moyo, prosecuting, said: “Mr Alexander suffered multiple fractures to the left side of his pelvis and also fractured his humerus.”

The prosecutor also told the court the case should be sent to the crown court to be dealt with as it was so serious and outside their sentencing powers. Magistrates agreed.

The case was sent to Maidstone Crown Court and Jacobs is expected to appear there for a preliminary hearing on March 31.

He was granted bail until then.
