A man has died after falling from a motorway bridge into a river this morning, it has been confirmed.
The man was pulled from the River Medway after a search by the police and coastguard following reports of concern for the welfare of a person.
He was found on the Cuxton side of the bridge and it is thought paramedics performed CPR for almost an hour. Police have now confirmed that he has died and said they are not treating the death as suspicious.
A passerby, who did not want to be named, said there were two police cars and an empty car on the bridge.
Drivers on the eastbound carriageway were being warned to slow down following an incident.
The police helicopter and the coastguard helicopter were both called to help in the search.
A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called at 10.16am to the Medway bridge on the M2 following reports for concerns for the welfare of a person."
They confirmed the Coastguard and SECAMB attended and the police helicopter was also deployed to assist in the search.
