A man arrested during a murder investigation has admitted being in possession of a Taser gun and CS spray.
Roop Masih, 40, pleaded guilty to two counts of possessing a weapon, when he appeared before magistrates in Medway earlier today.
He was originally held on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection to the death of father-of-one Micheal Tierney, who was discovered with serious injuries in Haig Avenue, Chatham in June.
Mr Tierney was taken to a London hospital but died two days later.
Masih, Dove Close, Chatham, was later release without charge over that investigation, but when police searched his home after his arrest, they discovered the CS Spray and Taser in a box in dining room.
Magistrates were told Masih had bought the weapons more than 25 years ago and had forgotten about them and used to be a member of a boxing club and to be part of the in crowd, bought the weapons to fit in.
June Banfield, defending, said: “He knew he had no intention of using them.
“At that time, 25 years ago, you could buy a machete.
“He had no idea there were prohibited, if he had he would have got rid of them.”
Ms Banfield also said he had moved house nine times in the last nine years and had never unpacked the box the weapons were found in.
She also told magistrates how Mr Masih had given up his job to care for his mother who has Parkinson’s and dementia and was of previous good character.
Stephen Binning, chairman of the bench, told Masih he was placing him under curfew for two months.
Masih must now stay indoors every day for the period from 8pm and 6am.
He was also ordered to pay a total of £265 court costs. Magistrates ordered the weapons to be destroyed.
Kelly Wicker, 27, of Haig Avenue, Chatham, has admitted attempting to pervert justice in relation to the murder investigation.
She is in custody awaiting the outcome of the trial of two Chatham men who have denied murder.
William Fleming, 26, of White Road, and George French, 39, of Ansell Avenue, will go on trial later this month (November).
