Trains were halted at Chatham station after a man jumped onto the tracks.
British Transport Police were called just after 10pm last night to "attend to the welfare of an individual".
The Maidstone-based officers managed to talk him back onto the platform.
He was later detained under the Mental Health Act and taken to a place of safety.
Services were halted during the course of the incident.
